PYD is a framework used by behavioral scientists to address supporting youth as they grow and mature. PYD is the idea that we can provide assets, or protective factors, to children to set them up to be resilient and successful, no matter what life has in store for them. Ms. Alicia will use this framework to guide her efforts to help students reach a state of self-empowerment.
Not every person, child, or experience is the same. Because of this, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to building self-esteem and confidence in children. Ms. Alicia will work collaboratively with students and families to design an approach that works best for their needs and situation. Ms. Alicia's flexible and person-centered approach makes her different than other support service providers and programs.
If you remember being a child, you may recall the pressures and uncertainty that come with it. Children only know what they know, and are rarely emotionally prepared for the experiences that they face. This can lead to self-doubt and confusion. Children deserve to be given the tools to be their best selves - to support their academic and social goals and aspirations. A child who knows, trusts, and loves who they are can accomplish anything they put their mind to.
